Tenuta di Montechiaro

Montechiaro is an 18th-century villa set in a picturesque and charming medieval hamlet.

Just 10 km from Siena, the property extends over 160 hectares, with 10 hectares of vineyards surrounded by more than 2,000 olive trees.

The remarkable Tuscan panorama opens onto rolling hills planted with vines and olive trees, with the skyline of Siena rising in the distance— a landscape that tells a story of tradition, agriculture, and time.

Here, the historic vineyards have preserved an extraordinary ampelographic heritage, handed down through generations and still an essential part of the estate’s identity today

The Montechiaro villa, originally built in the 18th century by the Bianchi Bandinelli family, later came into the hands of the Griccioli family through the maternal line. Today, it still stands as one of the historic hearts of the estate.

Overlooking an expansive garden, the villa features an elegant two-story façade adorned with refined architectural details, highlighted by a central portal framed by a graceful semicircular arch. Flanking the villa are two Italian-style gardens that open onto the 18th-century Limonaia, home to centuries-old lemon trees.

The estate is completed by a small Neoclassical chapel, whose façade features a pediment and columns, creating an intimate space that lends Montechiaro a timeless and poetic character.

The estate also preserves historic production sites, including the winery and mill, now transformed into a museum of rural life and the origins of wine and olive oil in Tuscany.

Over the years, Montechiaro has welcomed distinguished visitors, including Grand Duke Ferdinand III, Vittorio Alfieri, and Wagner. Today, it serves as a vibrant cultural center, hosting art exhibitions, classical music concerts, and photography workshops.
